Tag:historic=tank

A tag for a decommissioned  tank which generally remains in one place. Often a tourist attraction, monument, or gate guardian. A tank is an armoured motor vehicle designed for front-line combat. Manoeuvrability is provided by tracks rather than rubber tyres. The main gun is usually mounted in a rotating turret.

How to map

Preferably place a node at the location of the tank and use historic=tank. If the tank is a tourist attraction, then add tourism=attraction.

For a covered tank use covered=* or on a separate area building=roof.

Warnings

• Occasionally, decommissioned tanks and other military vehicles are used to commemorate people or events, which can be indicated by a name or an inscription somewhere on the installation. In this case, war_memorial=yes can be used. Do not tag tanks that commemorate nothing as memorials.
• For historic vehicles which are not tanks see historic=vehicle

• name=* - if there is an actual name or distinguishing number marked on the tank NB this is not the model or type of tank
• operator=* - indicates the operator or name of the company operating this tank
• manufacturer=* - the builder of the tank, if known. manufacturer:wikidata=* and manufacturer:wikipedia=* can also be added.
• model=* - for the model (type) of tank. model:wikidata=* and model:wikipedia=* can be added as well.
• description=* - description for more information
• wikipedia=* - the Wikipedia page of that specific tank, not just that model in general.
• wikidata=* - the Wikidata page of that specific tank, not just that model in general.
• wikimedia_commons=* - to link to a file photo of this exact tank
• ref=* - if there is a reference number (e.g. registration number) on the tank as well as a name
• tourism=attraction - to mark it as a tourist attraction
• heritage=* - if registered by an official heritage organisation
