A freestanding 
machine shop is a type of job shop where a variety of parts are machined for different companies. Its machinists use machine tools and cutting tools to perform tasks such as milling, shaping, drilling, finishing and other processes related to metalworking. Machining is a subtractive process by which material is removed to fabricate the pieces, which are most commonly composed of materials such as metal or plastic.
OSM's industrial=machine_shop tag identifies workshops where machining or fabrication of custom parts is offered to the client on a stand-alone basis as a service. The client supplies a blueprint, workpiece, design or specification and the parts are custom-machined to order.
If the parts are being fabricated for use in the prototyping, production or repair of a factory's own product, the facility should not be tagged as "machine shop". Instead, use man_made=works + product=* with the name of the product being made, as the map only indicates finished products or output.
For instance, if the factory actually makes new machines, man_made=works + industrial=machinery would be appropriate.
Draw an area marking this feature. It is also OK to set a node at its centre, if mapping as area is impossible. Add tag industrial=machine_shop and landuse=industrial.
