A marker that shows the position of the way of a route (but not its direction). It can be a symbol, a short pole or a painted marking. It is required to be used with tourism=information.

Difference from route_marker

There is also a more popular and equivalent information=route_marker (see https://taginfo.openstreetmap.org/compare/information=route_marker/information=trail_blaze Taginfo comparison] for the current number of uses or this tag history on taghistory.raifer.tech as a curve chart). However, some mappers distinguish between the two, with information=trail_blaze used solely to indicate the position of the way of a route (generally marks that do not use any arrows), like these:

Mappers who make this distinction then use information=route_marker solely for signs that indicate the direction of a route (typically with an arrow). If such markers also list a destination and possibly also how far it is, they are mapped with information=guidepost.
