The tag shop=camp can be used to map a camp store, a small shop catering to the needs of campers while they are camping. These are usually found within camping areas such as RV parks, summer camps, wilderness resorts, or outdoor retreat centers, and can be found on campground maps. Camp stores are sometimes called "trading posts" at youth camps in the United States.
Camp stores tend to be combination convenience stores, camping gear stores, and gift shops. For example, you might expect to find packaged food, bottled drinks, toiletries, firewood, fire-starter, propane fuel, flashlights, rain ponchos, bug repellent, postcards, hats, and souvenir sweatshirts. They may not necessarily sell tents or sleeping bags.
How to map
Place a node or draw the building outline as an area. Add the tag shop=camp.
Often the building that houses a camp store has additional facilities, such as an information desk, showers, toilets, nature center, ice cream counter, or lunch counter. These features should be mapped as separate nodes.
Useful combinations
- name=* – many camp stores do not have a more specific name than "Camp Store"
- operator=* – camp stores are typically operated directly by a campground but may be leased to a concessionaire
- opening_hours=* and seasonal=* – camp stores are usually open only when the campground is open, which may be seasonal
- access=* – camp stores may be open to the general public (access=yes) or restricted to campers (access=customers or access=private)
