The name Krolf is a combination of the Danish words kroket and golf. Using the equipment from croquet - mallet and ball - the objective in krolf is to complete a course by striking the ball into holes in as few strokes as possible, just like in golf, but the pace and terrain resemble croquet. A krolf course usually has 12 holes with distances from 5 to approx. 30 m.

There are also krolf-like games in other countries, sometimes called crolf, but krolf in its current form with a 12-hole course is a Danish invention. It was officially registered as a sport in Denmark in 2004. It is especially popular among seniors.
