waterway=confluence is the point of interest tag for a node where one watercourse meets another. This tag is not required to map a connection point, but is useful when a confluence has a name or other notable attribute.

How to map

Map the waterway=river, waterway=stream, or similar features around the confluence. Connect them with a shared node. Position the node at the central point where the two watercourses meet and tag it waterway=confluence.
