Talk:Key:lamp mount
support=pole
Assume a Government Street Lamp Bureau file has these types:
Ornamental pole Metal pole Concrete pole
Well wouldn't it make more sense for me to use
support=pole pole:type=ornamental pole:type=metal pole:type=concrete
Alas, pole:type appears to be used to describe the use of the pole, not what it is made of... Jidanni (talk) 01:22, 28 July 2017 (UTC)
Hi Jidanni, I would support your suggestion, but isn't pole_type=concrete and pole_type=metal rather pole:material than pole:type? metal or concrete doesn't say anithing about the constructional design of the pole (bent over the street or straight) in my eyes. Wall_mount usually just means 'Attached'
Note that a "wall mount" could be attached to a wall, pole, etc. It is the same mounting bracket with four screws, etc. no matter if it is attached to a wall in the city, or a pole in the country. Better to use Key:support if more information is known, no? Jidanni (talk) 01:31, 28 July 2017 (UTC)
Power pole / traffic signal / dual pole mount
How to tag these items?
- A street light attached to a power pole (or "tower"), usually somewhere around the middle of the pole (not at the top; the power lines are at the top). There could be an "arm" holding the light 1-2 meters away from the pole, towards the street. The pole and the light could each have their own id number, not necessarily identical.
- A street light (or "luminaire") attached to the top of a traffic signal pole (or "mast"). These could have a different operator (or at least a different department of the municipal government) than standalone street lights.
- A dual pole, often in the center divide of a street, which splits into two arms near the top, each arm holding a lamp illuminating its side of the roadway. The two lights could have different id numbers.

- (Lamp example) Perhaps just make two OSM nodes (one for the pole, one for the street_lamp object). Jengelh (talk) 21:44, 5 May 2021 (UTC)
lamp_mount=straight_mast?
Are poles like these considered lamp_mount=straight_mast? --Dafadllyn (talk) 21:12, 5 May 2021 (UTC)
- Both your picture links show straight masts. // Street lamps consist of a mast, a replacable lamp head (for lack of a better word) and, within the head, the actual lamp (commonly referred to as a bulb). The mast is generally uniform in thickness, so the lamp head starts whenever that changes, e.g. this bent_mast example where material changes fromm metal to plastic/colors goes from silvery to gray/thickness increases. Or where there are clearly-visible screwheads for fixation straight_mast example. But there's also example 3 where the thickness argument does not work. I would not put too much weight on the value of the presence of the straight/bent attribute, in case the lamp type is unclear. Jengelh (talk) 21:39, 5 May 2021 (UTC)
- Many thanks for your clarification! (It was the picture example for lamp_mount=straight_mast that made me unsure.) --Dafadllyn (talk) 19:05, 6 May 2021 (UTC)
bent mast
Wouldn't it be better to have a preview picture of an actually bent mast, not one with an angle? Like this one: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Peitschenlampe.JPG?uselang=de Or does this tag not include this type of mast?
