"Sidewalks near a road may not be mapped with separate ways" - this is not unusual, local community can decide to prefer mapping sidewalks as a road property. Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 11:50, 6 June 2022 (UTC)

Are there examples of this? While I know that both styles exist, I'm not aware of anywhere else where it's customary to revert separately-mapped sidewalks when such detail is mapped. --ZeLonewolf (talk) 12:42, 6 June 2022 (UTC)

"River areas are mapped with waterway=riverbank instead of natural=water+water=river. " - nothing unusual, standard method in OSM not so long ago. Once iD editor started treating this as outdated tagging, the usage dropped significantly. Maraf (talk) 13:41, 6 June 2022 (UTC)

There was also organised remapping campaign, and participation in retagging campaigns where both tags are valid with the same meaning is not obligatory Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 16:41, 7 June 2022 (UTC)

"Names of streets may be abbreviated contrary to usual OSM practice." - For what it's worth the parts that are abbreviated are generally classes of streets (street, road, alley, etc.) and they are almost always (can't recall a case where they aren't but I'll be cautious) abbreviated in writing, including official documents, post office listings, etc. While un-abbreviating the street names might move the mapping closer to worldwide standards, it would also move them further away from local ones.
