2011-05-13: 5th Informal Talk, ASBL Barricade, Liege

I would like to join this talk moment, but because I won't manage to go up and down to and from Antwerp due to logistic constraints. I am thinking of staying in the Liege Youth Hostel to and do some mapping in the city of Liege saturdaymorning. I have no idea about what could and should be done in Liege. Please post some info about where the focus should be on that theoretical saturday mapping party. --ivom 23:45, 7 April 2011 (BST)

Are there concrete objections to clean out the parts below on this talk page? It's look rather short-lived and out-dated to me. When there are no objection in 2 months from now, I will take some action --ivom 23:45, 7 April 2011 (BST)

Mapping party Mechelen

I'm looking for 'accomodation'. I'll take note of the result here:

Jeugdherberg “De Zandpoort” Zandpoortvest 70 - B 2800 Mechelen

Kleine zaal , 18 personen: 30,-/dagdeel van 3 uur + 5 EUR for 6 hours of internet access. The 3 hours can be chosen liberally.

I guess we can suffice with one such a part of the day, toward the end of the day. What do you think? I don't mind contributing 10-15 euros myself. I keep investigating other (cheaper) possibilities.

De Zandpoort seems acceptable. I can supply some network equipment if that's required. I would prefer some free place, though ;). Isn't there a café that offer (paid) internet access? Buying a couple of drinks should be enough to allow us in. I'm not sure we really need all that much time either. I'll see if I can find something suitable too. --Gyrbo 14:11, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

  • It seems Lunch Garden has a Telenet hotspot. This would be usable for those with an existing Telenet connection.
  • I also found this: [1] 30EUR incl. WLAN. The room seems to have space for around 8 people. On the other hand it seems there's an additional cost of 8,80EUR pp.

I went to Mechelen this evening. Brasserie/Restaurant Keizer Karel on the Veemarkt 20 seems like a good place to go. We can even use his brand new portable! Internet is possible with either ethernet or wireless. It's not open on Sunday though. How far would we get in just one day? Of course we can scout on Saturday to find something for the Sunday. I don't think it would be that hard. This is the first place I went to visit and it was very swiftly agreed upon that we were welcome there. There is a room in the back. For the Sunday, I don't think it would be very problematic if we didn't have internet access. We can always process the data afterwards at home.

I also went into Boesjkammeree near to the station, but on the one hand they are not open before 19h and on the other hand internet access cost 10 euros for 2 hours. Game over.

So, what do you think? Just go on Saturday or scout on Saturday to find something suitable for the Sunday? If we don't happen to find anything, we simply gather in a pub.

What I would like to achieve is that we get together and get to know each other a bit. I also couldn't resist to already draw most of the streets with help of the Yahoo! imagery. So all, we need to do now is to correct the probably many mistakes I must have made and put names on the streets.

Two days will probably be better to achieve this, than one, but if Mechelen is not on the map entirely by the end of our 'mapping party', others will certainly fill in the blanks eventually.

What I also did, is take bus number 4 to Leest, so don't be surprised to find some streets to the West filled in soon. I didn't want to spoil the fun by starting without you guys in the center :-)

I will probably come (If I'm available). I will be very interested to see how other people are mapping. btw. I already mapped some parts of mechelen ;) -- Raskas 11:03, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

Filip (zorg ervoor dat je in het vervolg je naam erbij zet: 4x~ na je bericht), de datum staat nog niet volledig vast voor zo ver ik weet, dus veranderen kan nog.

I think Saturday alone might be enough. I'm using my own efforts as an estimate. The part of Herent I mapped took just 2 hours on bike (logging alone, not drawing). I'm not sure how much of Mechelen we are going to map (I would start with everything inside the ring), but with Mechelen being 2-3 times the size and having 3-4 people on foot an afternoon might be enough.
PS: Is anyone who's planning on joining the party non-Dutch speaking? If not, we could just continue in Dutch ;)
PPS: Maybe it would be useful to continue this discussion on the new talk-be list?

I won't be able to join you in Mechelen, w-e allready booked --PhilippeP 14:03, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

FOSDEM

A lot of the roads in Brussels seem to be untagged. Would FOSDEM be a good opportunity to do some mapping too? --Gyrbo 22:00, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

If you can find people who go specifically for OSM without any interest in the development of free software. With 3 parallell threads of lectures most people will go for that I'm afraid. I know I am. --Polyglot 22:16, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

Samenkomst in 't STUK

--Polyglot 21:42, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

Get together in Lier/Bijeenkomst in Lier

We will get together on Saturday 9th of February from 10-17h to discuss mapping strategies and exchange tips and tricks to make it more efficient and fun.

We komen bijeen op zaterdag 9 februari van 10-17u om te bespreken hoe we mappen en om tips en weetjes uit te wisselen om het wellicht efficiënter en leuker te maken.
