Nodes

Elevators

These are the elevator nodes. They represent how the elevator connects walkways at different levels. For the elevator as building part or landmark please look at the area class lift shaft below.

public_transport platform
railway platform
area yes
ref number the number of the track if and only if the platform has one platform edge
level number the level number assigned by the operator
subway yes only if the structure is underground
tunnel yes only if the structure is underground
indoor yes only if the structure is underground or inside a building

These structures shall be modeled by ways if they are simple polygons and by multipolygons if they have holes. In this case we recommend to map the platform edges explicitly as way with railway=platform_edge.

Walkable areas (e.g. halls)

Stations as well as underground stations often have halls of substantial width. These are modelled as areas with the following tags:

indoor corridor
area yes
level number the level number assigned by the operator
tunnel yes only if the structure is underground

These structures shall be modeled by ways if they are simple polygons and by multipolygons if they have holes.

The walkable areas inside buildings, esp. subway stations shall be connected to each other by footways to indicate which elements actually are connected. These areas and ways shall be connected to the rest of the city only through designated entries.

Lift shafts

These structures represent the room occupied by the elevator or group of elevators in its entirety. The information what this elevator connects goes to the elevator node.
