Pros

  • You may get more precise shapes and labels compared to paper and pencil method
  • Very cheap and independent of weather conditions (pencil will work from -60°C to +40°C)
    • Make sure to protect paper (fire, water and physical damage)
  • No need in electricity (permanent or batterers)
  • Low weight
  • Low cost

Cons

  • Same as with using your memory
  • You will need printer or someone else to print your map
  • You need some time to prepare map for your region (but this can be delegated too)
  • You may need reliable light source (it would be difficult to write during storm or night time)
