With a building:condition=* tag, it can be documented how good the condition of the original building is. This tag has been suggested for castles but it can it be used for other buildings as well.
It's in use although it seems that there was never a discussion or proposal.

building:condition=preserved | The building is still in a good (preserved) condition. |
building:condition=renovated | The building was in a ruinous condition but got renovated. |
building:condition=reconstructed | The building was completely vanished but got reconstructed in the old style. |
building:condition=partly_ruinous | The building is partly in a ruinous condition. |
building:condition=mainly_ruinous | The building is mainly in a ruinous condition. |
building:condition=completely_ruinous | The building is completely in a ruinous condition. |
building:condition=recognizable_remains | There are only some recognizable remainders of a building visible. |
building:condition=ruinous | The building is in a ruinous condition (of unknown grade). This is equivalent to ruins=yes. |
