customers=* is used to specify whose customers have access. It is used in combination with access tagging, for example access=customers / vehicle=customers / bicycle=customers / foot=customers etc.
When to map
customers=* is used when the object could be used by customers of several neighboring facilities, but is allowed only for customers of one (or certain) of those facilities.
customers=* doesn't have to be used if the value can be derived from other tags (like name=* or operator=*) or from geometry (when the object is within the facility or there is only a single facility nearby).
Possible values
Value | Description |
---|---|
name of the facility | Customers of the named facility have access. Other customers don't. |
public_transport | Public transport users have access. Other customers don't.
This is often seen in combination with amenity=parking and park_ride=* |
