The mascot=* tag is used to indicate that a feature has a mascot of the specified value. This is often an animal or person representing a school, university, company, or town.
Values
By common practice, values of this key begin with a capital letter and keep their pluralization.
The mascot key does not generally contain a named character or figure. A school may have a general mascot of cubs and a named mascot of a specific cub named Victor E. Cub. The value of the mascot tag for that school would be Cubs. There is currently no tag in common use for specific named mascots.
How to tag
Add the mascot=* tag with the appropriate value to the node,
area, or
relation for a feature. If an organization has more than one mascot it is fine to add multiple values separated by a semicolon. ex: mascot=Plainsmen;Lady Plainsmen
Mascots are typically used prominently in an organization's branding and often found pictured or referenced on their website or in other publications. Many schools paint their mascot on their sports pitches.
Example
- amenity=university
- name=The Ohio State University
- mascot=Buckeyes
