The use of the word "western" is criticized, but there exist no better known alternative.
Indicates whether object is related to the western medical system.
This system is used worldwide, even in countries, which also teaches their traditional medical system at universities (e.g. in China or India). It has a foundation based on anatomy and physiology and is often evidence-based. Other (mostly derogatory) labels are school medicine and allopathic medicine, as well as (laudatory, but equally misleading) terms modern medicine and science-based medicine.
