Key:post_box:mounting

The physical mounting of the post box for types of postbox that can be mounted in more than one way.

This key does not apply to post_box:type=pillar boxes because they are always free standing

This page documents common values which have already been used by others. There is some overlap

Usage

This is a properties tag and should be used in combination with post box:

• amenity=post_box
  • post_box:mounting=*

The relevant values are broken down according to the post_box:type

Values for 'wall' type

Value	Description	Example picture
building	The box is mounted within the external wall of a building, and can be regarded as the default value in absence of the tag for 'wall' type boxes.
stone_wall	The box is mounted within a stone wall that is not part of a building.
brick_wall	The box is mounted within a brick wall that is not part of a building.
rendered_wall	The box is mounted within a rendered wall that is not part of a building.
stone_pillar	The box is mounted within a stone pillar. The pillar is either freestanding or significantly larger than the wall in which it is surrounded
brick_pillar	The box is mounted within a brick pillar. The pillar is either freestanding or significantly larger than the wall in which it is surrounded
rendered_pillar	The box is mounted within a rendered pillar. The pillar is either freestanding or significantly larger than the wall in which it is surrounded

Values for 'lamp' type

Value	Description	Example picture
pier	The box sits on top of a post which is mounted in the ground, the usual way of mounting and therefore can be regarded as the default value in the absence of this tag for 'lamp' boxes.Note that post_box:mounting=pole (q.v.) is probably a synonym.
wooden_post	The box is attached to a wooden post (not supported from underneath)
concrete_post	The box is attached to a concrete post (not supported from underneath)
metal_post	The box is attached to a metal post (not supported from underneath)
telegraph_pole	The box is attached to a telegraph pole
lamp_post	The box is attached to a lamp post (street light)
