Green waste is defined as organic waste that can be easily composted. This includes garden waste – leaves, grass, flowers, weeds, small sticks and branches, woodchips, bark; and fruits and vegetables.
Green waste doesn't include tree stumps, large branches, sod, rocks, dirt and animal waste.
Some waste management companies and municipalities also include food waste (bread, meat, dairy, bones, coffee grounds, tea bags (not plastic, textille etc.), egg and nut shells), natural fiber paper (without plastic lining) or cold ashes and charcoal in green waste. Then consider using recycling:organic=* instead.
How to map

Possible tagging mistakes
See also
- waste=organic
- recycling:organic=* – Organic food scraps and other organic waste that is recycled into biogas or compost. Particularly suitable for large composting centres, as some waste requires very high temperatures.
- recycling:garden_waste=* – Garden waste such as flowers, plants, grass clippings, leaves, twigs and small branches. If garden waste and food waste are collected separately, this tag is more precise.
- recycling:food_waste=* – Cooked and uncooked food, such fruit and vegetables including peelings, rice and bread, meat and fish, dairy, tea bags and coffee grounds. In places where garden waste and food waste are collected separately, this tag is more precise.
