a question mark

This article or section contains questionable, contentious or controversial information. See the talk page for more information.

This tag is used by some mappers to enter the widths of individual lanes of a highway for the "forward" direction. It is used in combination with width:lanes:backward=*.

There is also width:lanes=* for both directions, although it is argued that this might make less clear what lanes are meant with two-direction traffic. Currently (Dec 2024) both variants are used.

The syntax generally follows Key:width and Key:*:lanes

Usage

Enter the width of each lane in m (or specify diverging Units), separated with |.

Example: If there are three lanes of width 1.5 m, 2.5 m, 2.5 m in the forward direction and two lanes of width 3 m, 2.5 m in the backward direction, add the tags width:lanes:forward=1.5|2.5|2.5 and width:lanes:backward=3|2.5

A simpler variant would be width:lanes=1.5|2.5|2.5|3|2.5

Some mappers use values like width:lanes:forward=|1.5 which is hard for users to understand.
