About our team
The Open Maps team on Microsoft is a small team working to improve the data quality for OpenStreetMap. Our team is located in India, Serbia, and Washington state. We are not making bulk edits, automated imports or algorithmic 'robot' edits in to OSM anywhere. A Link to our GitHub page where our future projects, tasks, team members and more can be found. Goals
Our goal is to improve OpenStreetMap for our customers and local communities. Here are some examples of features we commonly focus on:
- Turn Restrictions

This is not an exhaustive list and will be expanded upon in the future.
Mapping Projects
Our list of active mapping projects is found here. You can leave comments and feedback directly with the relevant Github issue. If you do not have a Github account, please feel free to post your questions and feedback in the Discussion section of this page. We will also validate data issues using Atlas Checks periodically in markets where we are active. A list of descriptions and links to documentation for individual checks can be found here.

* Australia did not have a GitHub Issue page set up when the team originally went into the country. However, the team did reach out to the local community ahead of its work for the region. Any future work will have an issue page set up for it and posted here.
Terms:
Announced: The team is planning on contributing to the region soon. Projects are being planned for the region and research is being conducted.
In Progress: The team is working on multiple projects to help improve the data for the region at this current time.
Maintenance: While the team has moved onto the next region, there still are significant efforts to continue improving the data for this area.
Tools
Our team primarily uses JOSM for editing.
The team also utilizes MapRoulette challenges for most of the projects.
We use public instances of OSM QA tools such as Osmose, KeepRight, OSMCha and more.
Data
We use many of the data sources that are publicly available to all OSM mappers as JOSM layers.
Whenever we use third party datasets, we list those datasets as part of our project description. We only use datasets that have a license that is known to be compatible with ODbL. When in doubt, we reach out to LWG to look over and approve the license before using the dataset. If there is any conflict about a dataset, please feel free to contact us below.
