Adding examples

How one may add examples on property? And counterexamples of what should not be linked? Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 10:02, 13 December 2020 (UTC)

In Wikidata, there is a bit of documentation at the top of the talk page of properties (see e.g. w:d:Template:Property_documentation). Also, they have the property P1855 (Wikidata property example) P1855 (Wikidata property example) to show how a property can be used (see this used here: w:d:Property:P214#P1855). --Floscher (talk) 13:49, 22 January 2021 (UTC)

How strict match should be?

Is it defined anywhere how exact match should be?

For example Key:dog "Describes if dogs are allowed" is matched to Q144 "dog - domestic animal", not entry about whatever entrance with dog is allowed.

Is it valid or something that should be removed? See more at Proposed features/remove link to Wikidata from infoboxes/misleading matches Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 08:03, 25 January 2021 (UTC)

I wouldn't say it's valid, because the key "dog" says if dogs are allowed to enter with them to a shop, so we don't map dogs actually. The key literally means "are_dogs_allowed?" maro21 20:51, 19 February 2021 (UTC)
It is now removed and I am 100% fine with that Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 21:38, 19 February 2021 (UTC)
@Mateusz Konieczny: While I wasn't looking, Wikidata gained a whole series of items about specific "activity policies". I've linked dog (Q243), dog=yes (Q21758), and dog=no (Q21759) to activity policy on dogs (Q110997494), dogs allowed (Q105100922), and no dogs (Q105094236), respectively and vice versa. As far as I can tell, these items are semantically equivalent, even in terms of dog=* indicating what an animal facility is designed in addition to whether dogs are permitted, depending on context. Similar tags probably need to be updated to be more precise than linking to the animals themselves. – Minh Nguyễn 💬 20:01, 23 February 2022 (UTC)

Other examples, where I am 100% sure about removal for two last ones and pretty sure about initial ones:

What you think here? Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 22:10, 19 February 2021 (UTC)

The first three ones - I don't know. The lsat two ones - sport=windsurfing isn't a music album of course and Q693369 looks like building=kiosk. maro21 22:17, 19 February 2021 (UTC)
Q693369 is not fitting also building=kiosk as it may be unused Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 04:39, 20 February 2021 (UTC)

Property linking?

What should be linked for website=*? P856 or Q22137024? See for example https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/w/index.php?title=DE:Key:website&diff=prev&oldid=2100075 where I was unsure Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 11:01, 27 January 2021 (UTC)

Is it valid to link both? See also [1] and [2] where both were linked and I removed property Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 11:07, 27 January 2021 (UTC)
I think this property was intended just for items. Maybe there should be a separate property to link an OSM key/tag with a corresponding Wikidata property.
By the way in Wikidata there is Property:P1687 (website property) that links Q22137024 (website item) with Property:P856 (website property). So there is already an indirect link to Property:P856 (website property) if you just link to Q22137024 (website item)
But I'm also not sure what would be best. Maybe this could be discussed somewhere with a wider audience, don't know how many people watch these talk pages. Presumably just the people who edited that specific property before. --Floscher (talk) 11:33, 27 January 2021 (UTC)
If anyone is interested in discussing it wider then this would be a good ideas, this talk page is not really visible. On my part I just wanted to signal some problems that I noticed, I have long queue of things that I want to discuss more widely and Wikidata matching to OSM tags in data items is not important enough for me to be on that list.
