Security control facility which can be typically found in airports (before or after barrier=border_control). Also can be found at the entrance in somewhat sensitive buildings and areas: churches and mosques in some countries, embassies, stadiums etc.

Security control indoor would typically consist of a conveyor belt and X-Ray (or MRI) scanner for luggage, hand luggage and personal items and metal-detector frame for personal scan.

They can be one-way (like there is no way back via the same highway=*) as well as both-ways (when passing in another direction does not require passing security control again), so oneway=* or oneway:foot=* might be relevant for the highway=* which crosses the security control which acts like `barrier` (barrier=*) in this case.

Security control outdoor is probably the same as military=checkpoint, just operated by police or other department rather than military. Some examples might include checkpoints between Caucasian regions of Russia or non-military checkpoints on the highway on cities approach (like in Syria or Saudi Arabia)

How to map

Draw a node node on an existing way to the position of the control point and add amenity=security_control.

Draw a way way if you want to map a row of security control facilities. If it crosses another highway/footway, make sure to create a node on the crossing so the control is part of regular highway/footway.

Draw an area area around the building/area where security control checks are taking place, add amenity=security_control, also consider adding building=* if there is a building or roof.

  • checkpoint=* ‒ Don't be confused with checkpoint as this bears completely different meaning
