A waste basket is a single small container for depositing garbage that is easily accessible for pedestrians.
It can also be called a rubbish bin, litter bin, trash can, or garbage can.
How to map
Place a node at the location of the bin, and add the tag amenity=waste_basket to it. Since they're so small, it's unlikely a waste basket would be represented as an area.
Useful combinations
- waste=* to specify the kind of waste the bin is intended for. Useful for specific waste collectors like old drugs.
- waste=cigarettes If it's a bin for the disposal of cigarettes and their ash only (ashtray).
- material=plastic/metal/.. describes the material which the waste basket is made off
- colour=green/black/.. describes the color of the waste basket
- indoor=yes/no
- covered=yes/no
- ref=* used if the waste basket has an reference code or number
- manufacturer=* used if the waste basket manufacturer can be determined
- support=pole/ground/.. describes how the waste basket is supported
- drive_through=yes to indicate waste baskets where trash can be thrown in from a vehicle (car, bicycle). These are fairly widespread in the Netherlands and are known as blikvangers. Denmark seems to have a similar concept; other countries unknown.
