The tag archaeological_site=amphitheatre specifies an archaeological site as an Amphitheatre, a large open-air venue used for public public entertainment, including sports and performances.

Amphitheatres may be grand buildings (such as Rome's Colosseum) or may make use of the natural environment (such as cliffs or earth mounds).

This tag is only used for archeological sites. Sites still in use as an amphitheatre should instead be tagged using the appropriate theatre tagging.
