A trap_pit is a pit dug into the ground in order to trap animals. Trap pits are usually round or rectangular but may have irregular shape also. Simple trap pits have sides of natural earth and are camouflaged with twigs and branches. Pits used for a longer period may also have sides lined with planks or stone.
