The tag barrier=sliding_gate is sometimes used to map a sliding gate – a gate which opens by sliding to the side (or both sides). Sometimes these are operated by an automated mechanism, or they may be manually opened and closed.

It is more common to map sliding gates with the tag barrier=gate, however, sometimes with an addition of gate:type=sliding (or less often gate:type=rolling – see taginfo comparison).

Tag history

This tag appears to be primarily appearing in Indonesia and used by Grab employees[1].

It was in use before Grab employees popularized it, but usage was minimal[2].

In 2022 its usage massively increased to more than 16 000 uses then started to decrease to less than 14 000[3].
