healthcare=centre describes a physical healthcare facility with unspecified characteristics. Its usage without further specification is discouraged.
Please check if the facility fulfils one of the following criteria, and
either tag it more specifically:
- amenity=hospital if it provides in-patient medical treatment (i.e. having beds for patients staying several days),
- amenity=clinic if it is a a medical facility with more staff than a single doctor's office, but does not admit in-patients,
- amenity=doctors if it is an individual doctor's office, guideline is 1-10 members of staff,
- amenity=health_post if it is a village or neighbourhood health post, without a nurse or physician,
- healthcare=nurse if it is an office of a trained health professional who cares for people who are ill, injured or infirm, but who is not a physician.
- See Healthcare for a long list of healthcare facility tags which are currently being used and may be more appropriate
Or, if those above do not fit, and you have checked other possibilities in the amenity=* and healthcare=* key space,
please specify more details what services the centre provides, by adding
- healthcare:speciality=* or similar.
Undiscussed Automated and manual mass edits are discouraged.
Origins of the healthcare=centre tagging
- The key was defined in the original proposal for a "group of medical practices", but has been used less specifically:
- It is most common in India, where it has been used for at least 4 different kinds of facility which vary widely in size and complexity from inpatient hospitals to rural health posts with only 2 community health workers: "Community Health Centres" (see amenity=hospital), "Primary Health Centres" (see amenity=clinic), "Sub Centres" (see amenity=health_post) and "Dispensaries" (see amenity=doctors) - see Public_health_system_in_India#Sub_Centres on Wikipedia and Dispensary#Primary_care_(India) on Wikipedia. Large parts of usage comes from the India Health Facilities Import.
- In France it has been used for a building which houses a "group of medical practices" which are each privately managed, but also for laboratories (healthcare=laboratory) and clinics (amenity=clinic).
- In Germany it is being used for vaccination centres against the Covid-19 pandemic, sub-tagged healthcare:speciality=vaccination + vaccination=covid19
- In many countries it is used for any kind of clinic, hospital, or medical practice which includes the word "centre / center" or a similar word in a related language.
