A health post (a.k.a. "Community Health Post", "Health Station", "Health Center") is an establishment for local residents where government health services are primarily provided by non-medical healthcare workers. In many cases, a rota of medical professionals (doctors, dentists, nurses, optometrists, etc.) visit the community to offer specific medical services, but the primary services are midwifery, health counseling, community awareness and wellness education
It is much smaller than a clinic -- ergo, smaller than a hospital, and unlikely to have emergency care facilities. Some may have stationed ambulances for ferrying emergency cases to the nearest hospital.
Primary care providers may vary from one facility to another. This may range from nurses, midwives, or local community health workers with special training, but in most cases, it is unlikely to have permanent physicians.
How to map
Use the tag healthcare=health_post on a node placed at the centrepoint of the building, or on a closed way (area) drawn around the perimeter of the building.
In addition to this tag, some mappers indicate the primary care provider:
- Nurse – healthcare=nurse
- Midwife – healthcare=midwife
- Community Health Worker – healthcare=community_health_worker
