The tag landuse=healthcare can be used to explicitly tag the grounds of a healthcare facility.
Rationale
Larger healthcare related features like amenity=hospital are often tagged as areas covering the perimeter of that feature. In those cases the fact that the land is used for healthcare can be said to be implied (similar to how amenity=school implies landuse=education), and an explicit tagging of the land use is usually omitted. However, there are also cases where a single healthcare feature covering the grounds is not applicable — e.g., when multiple related entities share the area (like a doctors office, a physiotherapist, and a pharmacy sharing a facility). In those cases landuse=healthcare can be used to explicitly mark the area as used for healthcare.
Often such a shared facility will have an identity of its own, distinct from the healthcare providers residing there. This is similar to have a shopping mall has its own name and identity distinct from the shops within.
How to map
Draw an closed way around the perimeter of the healthcare facility. Then add the tag landuse=healthcare. Use other tags like website=* and name=* for further details.
Exceptions
There are exceptions where landuse=healthcare is implied and thus not tagged:
- Hospitals: The accepted standard for hospitals is that the hospital grounds are tagged with amenity=hospital. landuse=healthcare is implied.
