A peristaltic pump is part of very particular medical or industrial usages. It allows to pump fluid with the help of rollers that pushes on a flexible piping that pushes the fluid out the pump.
Some fluids may be very corrosive or require to not get in touch with any outside substance. So the flexible pipe allows pumping by the roller without contact.
Such pumps are usually driven by mechanical_driver=electric_motor adapted by a mechanical_coupling=reducer as to adapt the speed and the torque to the mechanical effort to roll on the pipe inside the mechanism.

A peristaltic pump involved in a chemical process with potentially dangerous fluids. The box between the electric motor and the pump is a reducer to slow the rotation speed and increase the torque as to move the fluid in the pipe |
