A rotary vane pump makes use of one or several vanes rotating around a rotor. Vanes can sometimes have a variable length as to fit in the pump body. The fluid is trapped by the vanes and can't go in the opposite direction.
It is different from pump_mechanism=gear as gears don't have vanes and gears don't trap the liquid as they don't properly fit in the pump body.
