An offshore hazard to surface navigation that is composed of unconsolidated material.
"Shallow" (Untiefe, Flachwasser) of mud, sand, gravel, into which one can drive the keel without destroying the ship, and from which one can extricate oneself.
Not to be confused with Rock or Coral Reef, which is hard concreted material.
