Fortified defensive tower. Usually it is located within the medieval city.
Donjon(fr) is a residential defensive tower of the medieval castles built under French influence.
Keep is main defensive tower of medieval castles built under English influence. It has both defensive and residential functions. Its continental counterpart is the French Donjon.
Bergfried is a German scientific name for non-residential main defensive tower of medieval castles. This type was very common in Central Europe since the 12th century. If the main tower was designed for a permanent residence, it is called Donjon.
You can tag Donjon, Keep and Bergfried using additional tags defensive=donjon, defensive=keep, and defensive=bergfried.
