- This is not a correct appreciation of the classification. It serves a planning function, mainly for deciding the road standard to be constructed to. It doesn't neccessarily reflect current use, especially in history. ---- Kovposch (talk) 21:00, 9 September 2020 (UTC)
- Historic note: For reference, I will list out some contradictions. In general, L is the worst, because it's used for the lowest standard across the broad, without regards to its function. It can cover
highway=residential,highway=unclassified, orteritary=*. From official definition, an Expressway may be formed from Trunk or Primary Distributor. UT is usually used for Tunnel Area, while tunnels in the middle of Expressway are usually EX. Slip roads are demoted, eghighway=motorway_linkare UT or RT.

Recommended to use the motorway tag only for legal expressways.
According to the laws of Hong Kong, tunnels and tunnel control areas do not belong to a separate expressway system, and their status is comparable to that of ordinary route line sections. Although it can be understood that the current situation is that some tunnel control areas are not part of the route line, can it be regarded as "ref-free route lines", then use trunk, and use motorroad tags?--StarBG (talk) 04:06, 23 June 2024 (UTC)

- As I reiterated, Discovery Bay Tunnel, and Shun Long Rd, are Tunnel Area. They aren't

- My notes on your examples for how they are reasoned by myself now:
highway=tertiary- Pak Wan St
highway=residential: Ddn't promote it yet, as it is a arcing"loop" serving the Estate only, and I haven't promoted other roads around it to greater thanhighway=unclassified(Tai Hang Sai St)
