It may just be because I'm new to this but I can't get any standard slippy-map implementation to work on the iPhone. The initial map loads but zooming and moving around seem near impossible. How hard it is to hook into the pinching gestures in OpenLayers and make this ubiquitous? (moved from the mainside)

I used iol.js [1], it handles the gestures (but still lacks a bit of performance). Nochmaltobi 22:45, 25 November 2008 (UTC)

Points of Interest?

Using my iPhone, I'm mostly interested in capturing points of interest that seem to be missing, rather than adding trails to the mix. I'd love to see a discussion of the best way to capture details like theaters, cafes, banks, supermarkets, bus stops, etc. EricEJohnson 21:14, 6 October 2009 (UTC)

This is coming soon, see Mapzen John07
I use OpenMaps for that. Also available as OpenMaps Free (without batch download) --Marko2 21:05, 15 March 2010 (UTC)

editing

are there any projects that implements an editor for the IPhone?

track'n trail

Seems like this application is no longer available in the AppStore. Anyone with more information? --John07 18:51, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

Ditto. I was also unable to find it just now (iTunes Canada). --Hrynkiw 22:37, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

Ok, i removed it from the wikipage. John07

Other phones

Although people love the iPhone, there area allot of similar devices on the market (such as the Nokia N97) so would it make sense to make a generic 'smart phone' page to allot OSM work to be done on a wider range of hardware?

Already exists. See Symbian, WinPDA etc. --Lulu-Ann 21:45, 19 August 2009 (UTC)
Yep also Android. We actually have a page Nokia N95. We could create one called "Nokia N97" too I guess. It's quite good to get specific with the information, but we should aim to keep it all tidy, and help people navigate to information they're interested in. Maybe this means fully linked to/from some more generic mobile apps information. The big list of apps is at Software/Mobilephones. -- Harry Wood 13:49, 20 August 2009 (UTC)

Tile usage policy

What is the Point? Is an App to get tracks to much of tile reading? What if I use an App for hiking aid? If car navigation is used with OSM, it looks like to much use, doesn't it?. But I think, the 79 Cent Roadee costs doasn't look like making monney at the expense of OSM?

79 Cent do not seem much, but the traffic caused by the users of the application is immense, because it is a tool where users regularily download tiles in high zoom levelt that they rarely use for just in case-situations. As an own tile server is not expensive either, I think it is fair to ask for one. Alternatively I think it is OK aswell, if the application mentions that users can donate for OSM servers. --Lulu-Ann 13:55, 28 August 2009 (UTC)
I agree with Lulu-Ann. There are also enough commercial services like cloudmade that offer you tileservices including toolkits. Or you can fire up your own using tiledrawer.com for example. John07

OSM is worried about the trafic caused by cashing apps. Does oMap use it\'s own tile server?\\
ThomasBonnin: I am actually discussing with OSM project members to find a solution since oMaps is currently using OSM tiles server. I will setup my own tiles server soon.

Cyclemeter app

I found an iPhone app which I haven't seen mentioned, called Cyclemeter, http://www.abvio.com/cyclemeter . I downloaded it yesterday and used it to track my commutes from/to work. It looks like it records GPS traces (without "snap-to"). I'm just getting started with the OSM project, and wondering if I should start a new (horribly incomplete/useless) page for Cyclemeter, or put notes here on the iPhone "talk" page, or perhaps on my own page?

merge (or better sync)

We should sync this with the Software page and take care, that here we do not provide to much details that get out of sync. But of course this is some kind of portal and therefore we have to list picked software here. --!i! 07:54, 11 August 2010 (BST)

Renaming article to iOS instead iPhone

I would like to suggest to rename the whole article to iOS (and link iPod Touch, iPhone and iPad to this article). Every application that is mentioned for the iPhone is runable on the iPad as well. So why should we separate different devices? There isn't a article about every single HTC Android phone, one article about all Android devices does the trick! What do you think? /update: Created Apple iOS-page. Imho we should keep all details about applications on that article. Kerosin 11:54, 6 November 2010 (UTC)
