Rockery?

How are we supposed to tag places where pieces of rock with diameters of around 1m have been put together like an exhibition, with a description for each rock (what kind of rock it is and where it was taken from)? Maybe geological=rockery? I don't know because I am not a native English speaker. When I do a web search for "rockery", I always find it related to plants, but what I am talking about has nothing to do with plants (although plants are usually around because it is outdoors). --Fkv 04:02, 20 September 2012 (BST)

Better late than never. In common English use, a rockery is a garden feature. I think I'd be inclined to call what you describe an open-air geological museum, unless it's pretty small or temporary, in which case I'd call it an open-air exhibit. If its purpose was artistic instead of educational, I suppose you could call it a sculpture. If you wanted to be really vague, you could call it an installation. Would tourism:museum, amenity:open-air and some indication of its geological nature in the title make sense? HLHJ (talk) 12:52, 13 March 2015 (UTC)

Needs a better system

Why are "moraine" and "outcrop" "geological" and not "natural"? Like bare_rock and scree they describe the gross appearance of the surface. So geological could be perhaps used together with natural=* describe additional geologic properties/origin of the stone/material such as natural=bare_rock/scree geological=quartz/basalt/lava. Other people have also used eg natural=bare_rock/scree + bare_rock/scree=lava. Of course "moraine"s can be of many materials. Anything seems better than currently documented scheme. The utility of 'outcrop' is more apparent in places where bare rock surfaces are rare, so outcrops are only found under specific conditions. An outcrop produced by a roadcut is weird to call 'natural=bare_rock' because its exposure itself was not the result of a natural process and its presence implies that the rock was a barrier that was cut through to make a road, not an ordinary surface that was laid bare by other means.--Bgo eiu (talk) 23:10, 8 April 2022 (UTC)

Approved?

The page mentions that this tagging style is approved, but I can't find the proposal. Could you link to it please? --Tordanik 11:58, 3 September 2016 (UTC)

OK. Corrected my mistake. Chrabros (talk) 18:38, 3 September 2016 (UTC)
