Uh, Where's the shop?
Given so many people on OSM use consumer electronics like GPS dongles, phones with GPS'es built in etc, I'm stunned to follow this link and not find a whole range of devices listed, with reviews on how well they work with OSM mapping and affilliate links, or a drop shipping store raising money (no you don't need to post out product to have a store...) I actually came here hoping to buy a GPS from OSM, so that a) I knew it would work well for my OSM mapping and b) that a nice big wad of my purchase money (more than a tiny 5%) would go to OSM. Given that I don't live in the UK, it looks like OSM wouldn't even get that... :(

- Why is this page not better? Because OpenStreetMap is mainly a massive internet collaboration of many volunteers. In general haven't been very good at getting organised with things like this which involve handling money and/or handling goods, and making business deals "on behalf of OpenStreetMap". The progress we have made is normally by having one volunteer take the initiative and set something up. Maybe you could help strike some new deals with GPS suppliers where you are from.
- At the moment we've set up a bit of that but it does look like a fairly rag-tag collection of links. The closest thing to what you describe, was the StorageDepot.co.uk deal, but that's UK only and also the old recommendation was to get a NaviGPS through them, but I think that's no longer available (I guess keeping up-to-date with new devices coming on the market makes this harder)
- But another reason we haven't done much of that, is that it typically is a slim percentage, so the honest recommendation is... head over to the GPS Reviews page, figure out which device you want (and you'll see different ideas from the community about what the best device is of course) You could then buy through amazon to have a percentage donated to OSM, but really... why not just shop around for the best deal wherever you're from? ...and then head over to http://donate.openstreetmap.org with the money you've saved. Boring though it is, that's actually the best deal for everyone.
- Having said that, it would be good to have more products listed on here, with reseller agreements with various suppliers, and much more funky branding and merchandise stuff listed + maybe even branded e-commerce stuff happening on our site. The way this might eventually be achieved in a well coordinated manner, would be through the OSM Foundation

Why don't you also join the Amazon.com associates program apart from that of Amazon.co.uk, so that you can reach more people (and earn more funds)?

Maps on Shower Curtains?
Has anyone thought of printing maps on shower curtains? I have occasionally found some "map of the world" shower curtains for sale in stores (these show political boundaries, and are interesting to look at, but aren't tremendously informative to me in an everyday sense). I would like to print a map of bicycle routes in my area, so when I shower off after a ride, I could review where I went. Shower curtains have the advantage of being large enough to display maps at a useful scale. Teratornis 18:52, 3 Jul 2006 (UTC)

London Poster (Oct 2005)

OpenStreetMap put together all the GPS data it had in London and made a stunning poster from it. It was a limited edition A0 (841mm × 1189mm) high quality black and white print, signed and numbered by Tom Carden and Steve Coast. See below for some snaps of the poster:
What does it show
Data submitted to OpenStreetMap of people walking, driving and cycling around London. So the thicker the lines, the more people travelled them.

The white-on-black image is intended as a desktop wallpaper image available in 800x600,1024x768, 1280x1024

- How was this map generated? Did you use a special script to draw the lines or is the zoom level small enough to see the different points as lines? Cimm 16:14, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
- Could be wrong, but this was actually a plot of just GPS tracks donated by ecourier I believe (way back in 2006).

Carpet
