Vänern
I am planning to sail with my little boat for several days on Lake Vänern. Therefore I am trying to get informations about shelters and fire places. OSM shows only very few shelters. Does this mean that there are really only a few shelters? Or does it mean that there are still many shelters which are not yet tagged? --Plenz (talk) 11:09, 19 May 2016 (UTC)
Removing "WikiProject" prefix
Hi, I am Daniel, from Spain. I would like to change the name of the wiki pages related to the Sweden mapping project to remove the "Wikiproject" prefix following the pages name conventions.
The name of the pages related to the Sweden mapping project would be "Sweden" (name of place) instead of "Wikiproject Sweden", as recommended by the wiki conventions. It is a change that I have already made in United States, Canada, Spain, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Denmark, Norway, United Kingdom, Italy, Germany, India, Russia, France, and all Spanish-speaking countries on this Wiki (and more).
I would also like to rename some other place pages according to the wiki guidelines (e.g. the wiki page dedicated to Stockholm would be remaned "Stockholm" instead of "WikiProject Sweden/Stockholm" or "Sweden/Stockholm")
Do you like the idea? Thank you! --Dcapillae (talk) 14:17, 18 February 2020 (UTC)
P.S.: A message has been sent to the local mailing list. --Dcapillae (talk) 14:29, 18 February 2020 (UTC)
I'm renaming the pages after consulting with the local community. It will take me a short time. Thank you for your patience and collaboration. --Dcapillae (talk) 12:23, 22 February 2020 (UTC)
Done! The "WikiProject" prefix has been removed from all pages related to the Sweden mapping project. --Dcapillae (talk) 17:11, 22 February 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you for simplifying the page names. I noticed that some pages about municipalities (kommuner) lost parts of their names. One example would be WikiProject ... Örnsköldsviks kommun (municipality of Örnsköldsvik) which became Örnsköldsviks (of Örnsköldsvik). Because this seems to be a systematic issue, I would suggest to move all affected pages again to XXX kommun. Thanks to @Essin: who spotted this example case BTW. --Tigerfell (Let's talk)
- I moved a few other pages already where there was no page history in the way, so it could be done without cut-and-paste or admin powers. There are also some cases where it is not obvious whether the page is supposed to cover a province/city/town (usually referred to in Swedish without a generic) or a county/municipality (usually but not always with a generic, län and kommun respectively). The people who created the pages might no longer be active, and templates and categories might be later drive-by edits. The category structure is much more precise and fine-grained than what the pages call for. I realized that adding a generic would not always be a clear improvement. The three cases Sundsvalls, Härnösands and Örnsköldsviks are clear, however: there were already separate pages about the cities proper. (Since 1971, Swedish cities are no longer administrative units, and most municipalities cover much larger areas than the former administrative cities. The exceptions are mainly in the Stockholm area. With a few exceptions, the long form of a municipality name is "Xs kommun" if X ends in a consonant, "X kommun" if X ends in a vowel.) //Essin (talk) 19:47, 7 July 2020 (UTC)
- Okay, great. I moved Örnsköldsviks, Ånge, Timrå, Sundsvalls, Sollefteå, Härnösands, Sigtuna, and Härryda. --Tigerfell (Let's talk) 20:48, 9 July 2020 (UTC)
