Boundaries in the Severn Channel
Is there something odd going on with the administrative boundaries in the Severn Channel? I'm aware that the City of Bristol includes a huge tongue of water bounded by points on the shorelines on Denny Island, Flat Holm and Steep Holm; this seems to be marked correctly on the map. But the boundary between England & Wales follows a different path between Denny Island, and Flat and Steep Holm. I can't find a source (open or otherwise) for this, but it seems very surprising. If it were true, it would imply that the City of Bristol extends into Wales, and that there is land below the high water mark on Flat Holm that is in both Bristol and Wales. Veering slightly off topic, does anyone know how this situation came about? I'm not aware of any other similar things in Britain. ras52 01:26, 5 June 2011 (BST)
