My main interest in OSM is mapping my birth city, Bogotá, Colombia. However, over the years, I have worked on various projects and am still working on some of them, most unrelated to Bogotá or Colombia.

This is the list of things I have done (without any particular order), which are not necessary mapping stuff but related in some way to OpenStreetMap.

Notes

Mapping

  • I improved the map data where I worked by correcting all related issues. This keeps my HDYC profile in good shape.

Bogota

Colombia

Boundaries
  • Check the boundaries and coastline of Colombia, as well as the regions and departments.
Waterways
  • Standardize the name of rivers and streams in Colombia by including the work Río or Quebrada accordingly.
  • Correct the flow (loops) and connect rivers and streams in Colombia thanks to https://waterwaymap.org/loops#map=4.73/4.59/-72.68.
  • Correct the transitions from River to Stream (invalid) using a file from WaterwayMap.

Development

Community

  • Create how-to videos about OSM: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC2DDH8ztMAgAJJ2cvE5c7ew MaptimeBogota YouTube channel.
    • How to use BigBlueButton to organize a meeting.
    • How to draw rivers, align rivers, and correct their names.
    • How to use OSM Welcome tool.
    • Intro the OSM Wiki editing.
  • List how different professions or experience can help to contribute to OSM. This is useful for creating social media posts inviting others to contribute.
  • Member of the HOTOSM Community Working Group in 2024 to help mentors and mentees develop the program.

Bogota

Colombia

  • Welcome new users by sending a message via https://welcome.osm.be/.
  • Be part of the AC3 (Asociación de Cartografía Colaborativa de Colombia) founders, an Association that aims to be the local OSM chapter in Colombia.
  • Create accounts in the most popular social networks for OSM Colombia.
  • Define a list of ways to improve the OSM map in Colombia.

Latam

  • To help organize osm.lat with multiple services on the cloud and locally on my server (geoserver, password vault, pad hedgedoc, forms, blog WordPress, status).
  • Led the Latam community by inviting other communities to organize bi-monthly virtual meetings.
  • Organize all wiki pages related to Latam and put them under ES:LatAm.
  • Interview Colombian and Latam community members as part of the celebration of the 20th years of OSM.
  • Promote the Welcome tool in other countries to send customized messages to newcomers.

Data items and tags

  • I reviewed the wiki for descriptions of pages and data items - Category:Data item issues. I created thousands of pages for Spanish keys and values (tags) and synchronised the description in the Page description with the Data Item. Now, the page ES:Objetos del mapa has all entries in Spanish.
    • Part of the idea to create hundreds of tags comes from User talk:Maro21
    • I have made more than 10K changes to the wiki.
  • Correct the status of all tags (in all languages), keys, and values in this wiki. There were about 2000 edits. Category:Feature descriptions with incorrect status value.
  • Validate the status spelling in wiki pages by querying the SQLite database from taginfo.

As I mentioned, I have started the local chapter of Maptime in Bogota. I have already organized some mapping parties by convoking people with MeetUp and Kommunity to gather data from the field. Due to COVID-19, I have organized virtual events to resolve notes about the city and Colombia in general and integrate the community. These events helped us improve the Colombian part of this wiki by adjusting the documentation and creating new sections on topics not discussed or explained before.

I have collected many SITP bus stops in Bogota and several routes of this transport system. I have created a project based on this freedom to provide a free map for Bogota citizens. It is called BogoMap.
