Places

In total there are 1.767 inhabited places in the Republic of Macedonia. The country is divided into 8 statistical regions and 84 municipalities. [1]

According to the State Statistical Office [2] Macedonia have one inhabited place with more than 100.000 inhabitants (Skopje), 4 between 50.000 and 100.000, 8 between 20.000 and 50.000 and 9 between 10.000 and 20.000.

Tagging conventions for inhabited places

Following rules define the conventions for using the key:place tag within the Republic of Macedonia's territory.

Cities

Towns

Places below 10.000 inhabitants which are towns by law [3]

Villages

The towns above 10.000 inhabitants are sorted in order of inhabitatants according to data found on [4].

Hamlets

Places below 100-200 inhabitants

Isolated dwellings

The whole settlement must not consist of more than 2 households
