Mapping Guidelines

Imagery Alignment

Imagery was previoulsy aligned with Maxar Imagery, but that imagery has now been revoked, so now it would be preferable to use ESRI World Imagery for alignment.

Buildings

Please take time to map buildings correctly. JOSM has a Buildings plugin that cuts down on mapping time and ensures higher quality of buildings.

Mapping Villages and other Urban Areas

Draw a line for the boundary and add these tags. boundary=administrative, admin_level=7 for cities, 8 for towns, 9 for villages, 10 for hamlets, neighbourhoods, suburbs, etc.

Then place a node at the center of the most built up area (or geographical center) and add all the tags for that village.

Last of all create a multipolygon relation on the boundary line with tags place=*, name=*, and then add the central node to the relation and give it the label 'label'. A boundary can have a full name like "Neuland Reinlaender Mennonite Community" while the village node contains only the direct name "Neuland" in this case.
