castle_type + castle_type:de
The castle_type=type tag can be used to give a classification of the historic=castle. The alternative values are under discussion. There is no Proposal page yet and they have not been voted or agreed upon. The main point of the discussion is whether to break with OSM custom and use precise German/local language tags or to use more general English tags.
To separate clearly local language tags, they can be marked with the local language symbol, e.g. castle_type=defensive + castle_type:de=burg
Note also that a lot of discussion is taking place in German: DE_talk:Tag:historic=castle#castle_type_neben_castle_type:de

additional Tags
- building:condition=* for the building condition
- ruins=yes similar to the above
- reconstructed=yes if it is a reconstructed castle and not original (alternatively see building:condition=reconstructed)
- imitation=yes if it is an imitation (e.g. Artificial ruin)
- start_date=* date or year when the first construction of the todays existing building was finnished and it started to exist.
- Note: Sometimes a stately castle is build on the place of an older but no longer existing defensive castle. In this case the date of the now existing building should be taken.
