Traffic island is used for an area representation of a traffic island – solid object in a road that channels or slowing down traffic.
traffic_calming=island is meant to be used as a point on the way itself, or tagged on part of the way.
How to map
Draw an area along its outline and add area:highway=traffic_island. It is recommended in case it is a refuge island of a crosswalk to create the paths through the island by labeling footway=traffic_island.
