Tag names

POIs using several floors

How do you map POIs regarding indoor mapping, since they spread over several floors and the outline of POIs on the different floors do not overlap? Do you create several objects of/for the POI? Or maybe do you create some relation for the POI. Furthermore all the examples I saw did not seem to include such a case. Maybe nobody payed attention to that problem? Rendering

• Are there already engines rendering several levels in buildings or subway stations?

  • for the IndoorOSM model proposal there is a 2D online map available: http://indoorosm.uni-hd.de

• Idea: If there are levels in an area, there shall be an icon placed. If you click it, you can choose with one of the levels (e.g. 2nd floor) shall be displayed.

Places

There are many examples on the Indoor Mapping Places list from various nations, however the list is not alphabetized by national name. If there are no objections, I'll sort them by country name from A-Z. --Chachafish (talk) 01:10, 5 February 2019 (UTC)

indoor=yes

This tag is listed here under Proposed Tags and not under Tags in use, probably because it does not belong to the Simple_Indoor_Tagging schema. However, with 142k uses it is the most used tag with the "indoor" key. But it still doesn't have a wiki page. Would it be wrong or undesirable for some other reason to have a wiki page for this tag explaining what is written under Proposed Tags: "Indicates any osm object being inside a room, a building (or both) or a shelter."? This explanation could then also be added in section Key:indoor#Values --Hufkratzer (talk) 18:48, 8 July 2021 (UTC)

Coordination/Merge with Simple Indoor Tagging

I think it would even valuable to discuss the pros and cons of merging the information that is available on this page with the simple indoor tagging proposal. Each page has info that would benefit the other and I think that having a more unified structure would benefit the average OSM mapper. Does the simple indoor tagging method have enough support to make it the ‘default’ tagging scheme for mapping indoor areas? IanVG (talk) 04:10, 23 July 2021 (UTC)

I don't think a complete merge would be a good idea for two main reasons:

• There's a lot of content on Indoor Mapping that's not about tagging standards, but instead about use cases, projects that are active in this area, etc. Merging would make it harder to watch just for changes to the actual standard. I'd even consider moving the list of examples off the Simple Indoor Tagging page for the same reason.
• Having SIT on a separate page makes it clear that it is a specific, curated standard, not just the sum of all indoor mapping practices currently found in the OSM database.

Avoiding excessive duplication is still a worthwhile goal, of course. This could perhaps be achieved by shortening the tagging section on this page where it only repeats SIT. --Tordanik 23:09, 2 August 2021 (UTC)
