Is there anybody already working on an import of the CLC data for Germany? Should we create a new subproject for that? --R kleineisel 11:12, 10 November 2009 (UTC)
- Please, check the licence first. Althrough the program is european, the licence is different in each country and most of them do not allow the commercial use. -- Pieren 15:55, 10 November 2009 (UTC)
- I did. The legal notice on the download page ("for commercial or non-commercial purposes is permitted free of charge, provided that the source is acknowledged") make me think that it's fine. This is the direct download site from the EEA where you can find data for the whole of Europe, so there seem to be no more country-specific differences. Am I missing something? --R kleineisel 08:03, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
- The general legal notice starts with "Unless otherwise indicated, ...". When you go to the dataset download page ([1]), you find another "terms of use" ([2]) "which says the user agrees: 1. not to use the data/applications/maps/graphs for commercial purposes unless the Agency has expressly granted the right to do so"

Normally, all datasets are also supplied by national agencies and published on their websites (in France, it is at www.ifen.fr). So I would recommand to check the terms of use of the German dataset there. The contacts we had with the French ministry suggested that the terms of use blocking the commercial reuse will be suppressed more widely in Europe in the futur but this was in Jan 2009 (at that time, only two countries removed this restriction).-- Pieren 10:11, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
- This is a bit confusing. The "Terms of Use" you found date from 2004, whereas the "Legal Notice" I found cites a Comission Decision from 2006. That's why I think that the 2004 terms are outdated. But we have to be really sure here. I'll try to contact someone at EEA and get clarification on this subject. If we get permission from EEA for data from the whole of Europe we don't have to deal with 27 individual agencies. --R kleineisel 12:22, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
I note a discussion on the talk page of this article which claims that the specific license page now redirects to the general license page, which allows commercial use also. Also that the download page, Corine Land Cover 2000 seamless vector data - version 13 (02/2010) says:
EEA standard re-use policy: unless otherwise indicated, re-use of content on the EEA website for commercial or non-commercial purposes is permitted free of charge, provided that the source is acknowledged (http://www.eea.europa.eu/legal/copyright). Copyright holder: European Environment Agency.
