Description

This tag includes the fare zone for TEC, a public transport company serving Wallonia in Belgium. Some bus routes have short extensions to other Belgian regions, but also to France, Germany, Luxembourg and the Netherlands.

The tag is a 4-digit figure. The last 2 digits used to be visible on stop signs. The new model introduced in 2024 does not include this information anymore. It is visible on paper timetables on bus stops and on their website.

Fare zones can be used to compute the price for a trip, because TEC uses a price for short trips (1 or 2 zones) and long trips (3 zones or more).

History

In the first years, fare information was mapped as zone=*. Some stops can still be found with this tag instead of zone:TEC=*. However, this tagging scheme was quickly abandoned because every Belgian operator used its own zone system, and the tag would be ambiguous in border territories where several operators use the same stop.
