Mappers in Haiti started to arrange "Mapping meetups" as "Mapping Fridays" in June 2011. These are not necessarily mapping parties but regular meetings for building the local mapping community, provide training and the alike.

Focus on following errors:

  • Doublons (duplicates)
    • plusieurs nœuds au même endroit: (multiple nodes in the same place)
      • Question (to discussion page?): In JOSM: Use Merge or Validator or Manual de-duping (and in which cases?)?
    • chemins se chevauchant (overlapping ways)
      • Best ways to solve the overlapping issue? (When new tracks have been added only almost on top of old ones this is easy but how to solve the overlap problem when overlapping ways also share same nodes?) --JaakkoH 17:16, 29 August 2011 (BST)
    • boucles (Curls(?) in the roads? i.e. When roads are not as straight as they could?)
  • Continuite des chemins et aires (?: Continuity of paths and areas? ... says Google Translate..)
    • zones non fermes
    • quasi-jonction ("almost-junctions" in Keepright)
    • îles flottantes ("floating islings" in Keepright)
    • intersections sans jonctions ("intersections without junctions" in Keepright. Especially missing highway-highway junction nodes cause problems in routing.)
  • Taggings
    • Tag manquants (missing tags)
      • lieux de culte sans religion (places of worship without religion ... are rendered as squares on the map)
      • point d'intérêt sans name (POIs without a name ... render less often, don't show up in searches, not useful for many reasons.)
    • Tags errones
      • balises mal orthographiées (misspelled tags)
      • language unknown (?)
    • General
    • éléments balisés fixme (FIXME-tagged items: to fix, useful to tag items as FIXME if they are wrong and you don't know how to fix it -- or even if you want to tag something for a second opinion)
    • balise bridge (tag: bridge?
      • .. what about it, except using the layer=1 tag in addition?)

  • Seb presented his python program that looks into all changesets (per month) and produces statistic of the total number of nodes, ways, relations touched by given mappers. output
    • Jaakko thinks this is great and would love to see stats (per month) since the quake.
    • Haiti statistics (Link to the data/graph(s) to be added / wiki page to be created for Haiti stats?)
  • Quality improvement
    • Keepright bug fixing. Namely (or at least) fixing crossing ways that do not have a junction node ("Intersections without junctions").

FUTURE THEMES

  • OSM-to-Garmin data conversion using Mkgmap (if there's time) (from 8/12/11)
  • Duplicate data fixing (de-duping). One somewhat common problem we seem to run into is unintended (sic!) duplicates that seem to often(?) stem from JOSM's bad(?) handling of uploading over a spotty connection. .. Jaakko has a good data set on this duplicate matter from his (or JOSM's :) mess-up in Delmas 59-89 area.
