Chester map
Chris Morley's Chester map is notable for it's use of areas to mark parks, commercial and retail districts, and residential areas. |
Chosen based on Steve's email [1]. Ojw 00:45, 2 Sep 2006 (BST)
Bath mapping weekend
Tracklogs from the Bath mapping party show what can be mapped in one day. Each colour is one person's contributions |

Tracklogs from the Reading mapping party show what can be mapped in a weekend. Each colour is one person's contributions for one day. |
Airport maps
J. D. Schmidt's map of Copenhagen airport shows labelled runways and taxiways, taken from official Danish air navigation data. |
Showing an example of how we're integrating public-domain data where it's available. Ojw 12:23, 2 Sep 2006 (BST)
There will be an revised version uploaded within a couple of days, that includes corrected almien_coastlines, as well as park, waterway, and farmland areas. Will upload to replace existing image, so better wait untill that one is up, before deciding what to use. Dutch 13:40, 2 Sep 2006 (BST)
Rutland planning
Rutland will be the scene of OpenStreetMap's 8th mapping event in the UK, where people from all over the country gather to map a specific area |
I'd like to get this one up just before the Rutland meeting, to introduce people to the idea of mapping weekends. Ojw 19:26, 8 September 2006 (BST)
Reading uni campus
Reading University Whiteknights campus is testing OpenStreetMap's support for embedded areas, such as a lake within a park, or paths through a garden. |
Perhaps an Oxford local could write-up a bit about what's happening in that area?
Oxford and Cotswolds
(replace shortly with osmarender 3.0 version) |
Oxford is steadily being mapped, with just a few remaining (eastern) areas of the city still to be covered in detail. Good progress has also been made on mapping the waterways, footpaths and cycleways throughout the city. There is also plenty of overlap with activity for the East Cotswolds |
Isle of Wight
It is believed that every road on the Isle of Wight (380 km²) has been mapped by the OpenStreetMap project. |
Tiger
U.S. Public-domain TIGER data is being imported, as a basis for american maps. Shown here: junction of interstate 55 and interstate 90, in Chicago |
Rutland - Oakham
Rutland was mapped in a weekend. Map shown is of Oakham, the county town |
I would like to propose the enlarged map of Oakham. (todo: Maybe Ojw could link the actual file) Good example of how manually editing (in Inkscape?) label placements can greatly enhance the final result.
- Oakham was a featured image on 21-27th October. Image is here, SVG is here. Ojw 18:36, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
nestoria
Maybe this http://static.nestoria.co.uk/i/uk/en/b/cowes.png would be cool - the first commercial use of OSM data?
www.nestoria.co.uk becomes the first commercial organisation to use OSM data. |
Nodes
Node density in the south of England shows activity in the Isle of Wight, Southampton, and the New Forest |
Munich Mapping Weekend 21/22-Oct-2006
The Munich Mapping Weekend was the first ever mapping weekend in Germany. The animation shows the progress made over the last few weeks. |
Many people have animation turned off on their browsers (to make adverts less distracting), so this map appears very sparse if you see just the first frame. Ojw 18:34, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
- Good hint, I might want to change the animation to show the final picture first then.
- RalfZ 18:43, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
- could insert transitions between each date, then the reception of the image is better than disruptive changes. scoid 23:00, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
- That won't help with users that have turned off animations. And there are no official planet.osm files in between those dates. It is a pity...

New slippy-map
London
Image of the Greater London area, showing what's done, and what's left to do |
This image has fascinated people on IRC, so I'll propose it for featured status. Ojw 00:34, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
Oh, really?! I've got a few more renders of this stuff, and the differences here. Randomjunk 10:15, 20th Nov 2006
Hedge end
Hedge End near Southampton in Hampshire and surrounding areas. Rendered using OSMARender 1 with a few additional rules |
- Actually I quite like the tracklogs picture of Hedge End, as used on our wikipedia article ;) Ojw 22:30, 8 November 2006 (UTC)
The tracklogs around Hedge End are almost good enough to navigate from before they get converted into vector maps! |
Karlsruhe
The geometric layout of Karlsruhe is illustrated in SlowRider's map, rendered by Joto using Osmarender |
UK transport
Railways and motorways in Britain - thematic maps can be generated using osmtrackfilter in conjunction with the normal rendering tools |
Copenhagen
Looks good. We need to wait a bit before putting Copenhagen renderings on the front page again though, maybe schedule for February? Ojw 22:22, 8 November 2006 (UTC)
